FAQ

Do I need to do anything to prepare for a colonic?

Yes! To make the most out of your colonic treatment, try your best to stop eating 2 - 3 hours before your session. Try to avoid coffee, sugar, and alcohol before and after on the day of your session. Finally, try to avoid typically gassy foods like broccoli, kale, raw apples, legumes (see our ‘After a Colonic’ information sheet for more about gassy foods here) the day before the session.

How often should I have a colonic?

This can be decided once you come in for your first session with us. We will be able to get a sense of things like how much gas, acidity, and hidden congestion there is in your system and what symptoms you are currently  experiencing i.e. skin issues, headaches, digestive upset, lack of or too frequent bowel movements, trouble sleeping, anxiety and depression.

Typically, during your session, we will advise you on what is best for you.

Do colonics Disrupt the Microbiome?

No. Just as we don’t eliminate bacteria from the mouth by drinking water, we don’t eliminate it from the colon when we flush the colon with water. During a colonic, we use purified water to hydrate, dissolve and transport solid waste and gas out of the body. It does not disrupt the mucosal membrane where the majority of beneficial bacteria colonize.

Why do you give me a probiotic at the end of a treatment?

A colonic has the effect of reversing a stagnant colon. The accumulation of waste can be cleared to  create a clean environment that allows beneficial bacteria to thrive which allows the probiotic supplements and fermented vegetables to be more effective.

Will I need to stay by the toilet all day after my treatment?

No. Since a colonic cleans out your colon, once your treatment has concluded,  you may not need to go to the toilet for a day or so after your treatment. You can safely go about your business after your treatment without worrying about getting caught short. Having a colonic can fit easily into your day without any disruption.

Is a colonic painful?

No. The procedure is generally not painful at all. In fact, many people find it to be a relaxing experience. A speculum is inserted into your rectum with lubricant for ease of insertion. We use a gentle, slow flow of water to cleanse the colon, and the water temperature is adjusted to the individual’s comfort level.

Are there risks to having a colonic?

No. Colonics are a safe and gentle treatment when performed by a trained and certified therapist. We use filtered water and sterile and disposable equipment to ensure the utmost cleanliness and safety.

Are colonics necessary? Doesn’t my body cleanse my colon naturally?

While it is true that the body has its own natural processes for eliminating waste, there are many factors that can disrupt this process, such as a poor diet, stress, and medication. Colonics can help to flush out any built-up waste and toxins in the colon, which can improve overall health and well-being.

How long does a colonic take?

Your appointment will last about one hour.  This includes time for preparations, a 10-minute castor oil pack, followed by your colonic (approximately 35-minutes) and time after the session.
